FINA World Short Course Championships: Albert Subirats Wins 50 Fly With Meet Record

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 18. VENEZUELA's Albert Subirats nabbed the men's 50 fly world title with a meet record at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Subirats touched out Ukraine's Andrii Govorov, 22.40 to 22.43, for the win. Both times beat Steffen Deibler's meet record of 22.57 from earlier in the meet. Subirats moved to third in the world rankings, while Govorov pushed up to fourth in the rankings. Govorov also lowered his Ukrainian record of 22.74 set last month.

Deibler completed the podium with a third-place 22.44, short of his top-ranked 22.34 from the European Short Course Championships. Brazil's Nicholas Santos also cleared Deibler's record with a fourth-place 22.45.

Australia's Geoff Huegill (22.75), Spain's Rafael Munoz Perez (22.77), Japan's Masayuki Kishida (22.79) and Brazil's Glauber Silva (22.87) also competed in the finale.
