FINA Water Polo World Cup Begins Next Week

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, July 26. THE national teams of Australia, China, Croatia, Iran, Romania, Serbia, Spain and USA will meet in Oradea (ROU), for the 14th edition of the FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup, taking place from July 27-August 1, 2010.

The recent winner of the FINA World League, the World champion in 2009 and the holder of the previous World Cup, the team of Serbia, will naturally be the squad to beat in this tournament, a competition held every four years. The Balkans will certainly have strong opposition from Croatia, USA, Spain or Australia, long-established powerhouses of the discipline. Romania, China and Iran are, in principle, the national teams with less tradition, but they will surely try to climb in the world hierarchy in Oradea.

The Programme of the 2010 edition is as follows:

Group A: Australia, Iran, Romania, Spain
Group B: Croatia, USA, China, Serbia

Day 1 (July 27): USA-CHN, IRI-ROU, CRO-SRB, AUS-ESP
Day 2 (July 28): USA-SRB, IRI-ESP, CRO-CHN, AUS-ROU
Day 3 (July 29): ROU-ESP, CHN-SRB, IRI-AUS, USA-CRO
Day 4 (July 30): 4A-4B (places 7/8), 3A-2B, 2A-3B
