FINA Suspends Ukrainian Coach on Interim Basis After Fight with his Daughter

By John Lohn

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 28. INVOLVED in a physical altercation with his daughter on Tuesday, Ukrainian coach Mykhaylo Zubkov has been suspended, on an interim basis, from all activities under the umbrella of FINA, swimming's world governing body. The FINA Disciplinary panel held a hearing to determine that action.

A final decision on a penalty will be forthcoming, after attorneys for Zubkov have a chance to present a case on his behalf. Details have emerged that Zubkov and his daughter, Kateryna, got into a scuffle because she continued to see her boyfriend against his wishes. The Nine Network captured footage of the daughter hitting her father while he tried to fend her off. While he initially tried to calm her down and did not attempt to strike his daughter, the incident concluded with the man sitting on top of his offspring.
