FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Championships

PHOENIX, Arizona, Feb. 4. SERBIA will appear in the FINA Men's Water Polo World League Championships in June. The Serbians easily defeated Germany in Group B competition, 13-4, to ensure their place in the finals.

Montenegro, leader of Group A, also looks to have a place in the finals. With their 6-5 victory over Croatia, the Montenegro team has a perfect 4-0 record (12 points). Croatia is in second with 6 points. Greece comfortably defeated Turkey 15-4 in Istanbul in the other Group A match.

In Group C, the Olympic silver medalist and 2011 World champion Italian squad lost after a penalty shootout, 12-10, to Russia. The teams were tied after regulation, 8-8. Hungary is the leader of Group C with a 4-0 record and 12 points, with their 9-8 triumph over Romania.

Round 5 of the European qualifications will take place March 27. There will be then be a break for the Europeans while Asia/Oceania holds its tournament May 9-14 in Auckland, New Zealand, and the Americas tournament begins May 24 in the United States.

Next up will be a women's European qualifying round Feb. 6.
