FINA Announces Pair of Doping Infractions

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 16. YESTERDAY, FINA announced a pair of doping infractions on its web site.

First, Water Polo Canada imposed a two-year suspension of Sebastien Verdoucq. Verdoucq tested positive for Cannabis (marijuana) following an in-competition doping control test conducted on May 10, 2009. The two-year suspension began retroactively to Dec. 11, 2009.

Meanwhile, Brazilian swimmer Vinicius Rocha Barbosa Waked tested positive for the substance Isometheptene (a migraine medication specified as a stimulant) following an in-competition test conducted at the Trofeu Open de Natacao on Dec. 19, 2009. The Brazilian Swimming Federation imposed a two-month ban for the infraction starting on Feb. 4, 2010.
