FINA Announces Open Water Venue, Schedule For World Championships

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, April 20. FOLLOWING a meeting in Shanghai (CHN), host of the 14th FINA World Championships from July 16-31, 2011, FINA designated the site of Jinshan City Beach (sea water) to host the Open Water Swimming events of this competition.

The selection the site has been made in function of the quality of the water, the close availability of high-standard accommodation for the National Federations' teams and the possibility of fully implementing the safety conditions for all participants in the 5km, 10km and 25km races.

Moreover, in order to create the best possible competitive environment for the athletes, and to avoid the peak hours of the day in relation to the air and water temperature, FINA has also re-scheduled the programme of events, as follows:

Tuesday, July 19 – 09:00, 10km Women
Wednesday, July 20 – 09:00, 10km Men
Thursday, July 21 – 09:00, 5km Team Event
Friday, July 22 – 08:00, 5km Women; 10:00, 5km Men
Saturday, July 23 – 08:00, 25km Men; 08:15, 25km Women
