Club Wolverine swimmers made it two wins in two events on the first day of competition at the arena Pro Swim Series meet in Atlanta as Felix Auboeck pulled away from Zane Grothe to win the men’s 800 free.

Auboeck touched first in 7:55.86, making him the 12th-fastest performer in the world this year. Grothe swam with Auboeck for much of the race but could not hang tight down the stretch, and he ended up taking second in 8:01.94.

Third went to Clark Smith, who recently wrapped up his Texas career with a pair of individual NCAA titles and American records. Smith finished in 8:02.34.

Louisville’s Marcelo Acosta finished fourth in 8:06.73, and Germany’s Paul Zellman came in next at 8:09.09. Club Wolverine’s PJ Ransford finished sixth in 8:11.85, followed by Byalor’s Trey Freeman (8:13.46) and Franco Lupoli (8:14.83).
