NEW COMMIT: Winter Garden, Fla. freestyler Zach Brewer has selected Pennsylvania State University for his college choice and will arrive on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season.

A rangy freestyler, Brewer does his club swimming with Fast Lane Aquatics and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 1500m free. This past summer, he recorded a pair of top-25 finishes at Greensboro Futures after notching four lifetime bests at Gainesville Sectionals. He raced two events at Juniors East last winter and finished eighth in the mile at the Florida Spring Championships.

Also competing for Bishop Moore School, Brewer is a three-time Florida 2A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned bronze in the 500 free and took fifth in the 200 free as a junior after racing to seventh in the latter during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Penn State University. The coaching staff is excellent, the team atmosphere is incredible, and the academics and resources are exceptional. I would like to thank all my friends, family, and coaches for helping me achieve this point of my swimming career. WE ARE!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.68
  • 100 free – 48.08
  • 200 free – 1:42.02
  • 500 free – 4:33.38
  • 1000 free – 9:32.26
  • 1650 free – 15:50.53

When he suits up for the Nittany Lions as a member of the class of 2024, Brewer will add his talents to a freestyle training group that’ll include Michael Daly and Nathan Schiffman. He will also join Ben Doyle and Jacob Oberle in State College next fall.
