The surviving family of Jakob Mumper, the high school senior who was shot and killed in an apparent triple-murder-suicide by his father earlier this month, has started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for a scholarship in the family name. Mumper’s sister, Emma, and mother, Greta, were also killed earlier this month. The scholarship fund was started by Greta’s sister, Erika Sands.

Greta Mumper was a graduate of Purdue and received her Master’s degree in Health Physics from Georgia Tech. She had just completed her third master’s degree in special needs childcare development with a “mild to moderate” designation and was looking forward to helping children with special needs and giving them a better quality of life.

Emma Mumper was born in Atlanta and was a swimmer at Bloomington North High School before graduating in 2012. She graduated with the highest honors from Indiana University and most recently attended Stony Brook University where she received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Jakob Mumper was a rising senior swimmer at Bloomington North High School, where he was 18th in both the 50 (21.24) & 100 freestyle (46.86) at the 2020 IHSAA state championships. Mumper helped his 200 freestyle relay team place 13th at the state meet as he anchored in a 20.76. He also anchored the 400 free relay team to finish 22nd. He was the president of the Bring Change to Mind group, an organization that gives students a platform to share their voices and raise awareness around mental health.

Greta’s family has started a scholarship fund in the three family member’s names.

  • In Greta’s name, a scholarship will be awarded to MCCS Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools
  • In Emma’s name, a scholarship will be awarded to Stonybrook University
  • In Jake’s name, a scholarship will be awarded to Bloomington High School North
