Fairfield vs. Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Massachusetts, October 11. THE Holy Cross men's and women's swim teams opened the season at the Hart Center against Fairfield on Saturday, October 11. The women's team beat Fairfield 160-138, while the men lost 178-120. The Holy Cross women's swim team improves to 1-0 while the Fairfield women's team drops to 0-1. The Holy Cross men's swim team falls to 0-1 and the Fairfield men's team improves to 1-0.

Junior Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) led the women's team to victory with three wins in the meet. Gousman placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.56), finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:32.06) and finished first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:19.46). Freshman Annie O'Shea) and junior Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) also won multiple events. O'Shea finished first in the 200 yard butterfly (2:14.77) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.36). Martinez won the three meter diving competition and the one meter diving competition.

For the Holy Cross men's team, freshman Adam DeVito (Walpole, Mass.) won the one meter diving competition. Junior Joseph McShane (Chatham, N.J.) finished first in the 100 yard freestyle (50.72) and junior Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass) finished first in the 100 yard butterfly (55:89).

The Crusaders compete again on October 19 against Patriot League opponent Lehigh in the Hart Center at 12:00 p.m.
