Eva Cuevas of Hopkins Mariner Swim Team Selects Grinnell College
NEW COMMIT: Trumbull, Conn. native Eva Cuevas has announced her commitment to Grinnell College and will suit up for the Pioneers in the fall of 2021.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m so excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Grinnell College this fall! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends who helped me get to where I am! I couldn’t have done it without you! Go pioneers!! ?⚫️”
A versatile swimmer, Cuevas does her club swimming with Hopkins Mariner Swim Team and earned a best time at Connecticut Seniors in February 2020 after posting a trio of top-20 finishes at the Age Group Qualifier. In 2019, she finaled in the 200m breast at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:09.67
- 200 breast – 2:30.55
- 200 IM – 2:14.20
- 500 free – 5:18.48
Also competing for Sacred Heart Academy, Cuevas placed third in the 500 free and sixth in the 100 breast at the CIAC Class M Championships as a junior.
Cuevas will add valuable depth in a number of events when she arrives at Grinnell as a member of the Class of 2025. Under head coach Erin Hurley, the Pioneers finished second overall in the team standings at the 2020 Midwest Conference Championships.
