European Short Course Championships: Flash Alessia Filippi Demolished 800 Free World Record – Video Included!

RIJEKA, Croatia, December 12. KATE Ziegler's short course world record in the women's 800 free could not hold a candle to the pair of performances set by Italy's Alessia Filippi and France's Coralie Balmy.

Ziegler set the global standard with an 8:08.00 last year in Essen, Germany. Tonight at the European Short Course Championships, Alessia Filippi clocked an astonishing time of 8:04.53 to set the record. She was followed by France's Coralie Balmy under the previous record with a second-place 8:05.32.

Notably, Filippi's readout also crushed the European standard of 8:08.25 set by Great Britain's Rebecca Adlington at the 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester.
