NEW COMMIT: Katy, Texas freestyler and butterflyer Ethan Autry has elected to stay in-state next year after committing to Texas Christian University as a member of the class of 2023.

Autry does his club swimming with Katy Aquatic Team for Youth and owns the U.S. Open standard in the 100 fly with the Winter Juniors cut in the 50 free. He most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where he placed 12th in the 100m fly after finishing 19th in that event at Juniors West in December. This past summer, he notched five best times with five top-10 finishes at Southern Zone Seniors.

Also competing for Seven Lakes High School, Autry is a five-time Texas UIL 6A State Championship finalist. He took fourth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 50 free as a senior after finishing 10th and 15th, respectively, in those events during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m happy to announce that I have committed to further my swimming career at Texas Christian University.  The beautiful campus, great coaches, and swim and dive program seem like a good fit for me. Thanks to my family, coaches, and everyone who supported me through my life thus far.”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.63
  • 100 free – 45.94
  • 200 free – 1:41.50
  • 500 free – 4:39.63
  • 50 fly – 23.51
  • 100 fly – 48.59
  • 200 fly – 1:52.54

When he arrives in Fort Worth at the start of the 2019-20 season, Autry will add valuable freestyle and butterfly depth to their lineup. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 fly at the 2019 Big 12 Championships where Texas Christian finished third overall in the team standings.
