Epic Swim To Be Held In Lake Taupo

LAKE TAUPO, New Zealand, November 24. a href="http://openwaterpedia.com/index.php?title=Lake_Taupo"target="_blank">LAKE Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand, will be the site of a two concurrently held open water events. The 2012 State New Zealand Open Water Championships will cater to world-class swimmers vying for spots at the Olympics, while the Epic Swim attracts to swimmers of all ages, from seriously competitive masters swimmers to children with minimal experience.

The crystal clean waters and scenery of iconic Lake Taupo will attract hundreds of open water swimmers on January 14-15 2012.

The State New Zealand Open Water Championship will serve a trial race for the final Olympic 10km Marathon Swim qualification race in Portugal for the 2012 London Olympics.

The selection race will be a pressure cooker for athletes like Kane Radford and Cara Baker where a top-notch quality field is expected to line-up in both the 5K and 10K events. Open to all international swimmers, the Kiwi swimmers will be pushed hard, especially since the 10K championship event offers a NZ$5,000 winner-take-all cash prize for both the male and female races.

The amateur State Epic Swim will feature races for all ability levels and ages, from the 100m and 500m races for the kids through to the 1K, 2.5K, 5K and 10K races for the more serious and more experienced.
