The 2018 Austin Speedo Sectionals held July 12-15 will feature a wide array of talented swimmers. Host team Longhorn Aquatics preoccupies numerous top seeds with a very decorated elite men’s field. Along with the Longhorns, Texas A&M swimmers, now under Aggie Swim Club, dominate the top spots on the women’s side as well. Click here to view the entire psych sheet.

Here are two big names from Longhorn Aquatics and Aggie Swim Club you can expect to see winning events for their squad at this stop in the Speedo Sectionals series:

Bethany Galat: The world silver medalist in the 200 breast is seeded number one in her three discipline events (100 breast, 200 breast, 400 IM). Galat’s dominance in her events is expected to score major points for Aggie Swim Club. In the 200 breast, 5.03 seconds separates Galat from number two seed fellow Aggie teammate Anna Belousova. In the 400 IM, Galat is seeded first with a whooping 12.41 seconds separating her from number two seed Magnolia’s Kaitlynn Sims.

Will Licon: The NCAA Champion and American record holder is seeded second in the 100 breast behind fellow Longhorn Andrew Wilson. Longhorn’s Licon is also seeded first in the 200 breast and 200 IM with more than a second gap between him and the number two seeds.

Many other stand out names are featured from the two teams that are expected to place high as well. But, there are other names that could silently steal number one spots from the dominant teams.

Women’s 100 back

Aggie’s Lisa Bratton sits in first at 2:08.78, however Magnolia’s Lucie Nordmann is only 0.62 seconds behind Bratton.

Women’s 200 fly

Texas Ford’s Ashlyn Fiorilli and Magnolia’s Lillie Nordmann are separated by 0.44 seconds in the top two spots, both under 2:13. Aggie swimmer Kara Eisenmann is seeded 1.29 seconds behind Nordmann with 2:13.92.

Women’s 100 free

Magnolia’s Lucie Nordmann is seeded 0.46 seconds ahead of Aggie swimmer Julia Cook.

Men’s 100 Free

Olympians Townley Haas and Jack Conger, both swimming unattached, are seeded 1-2 in the men’s 100 free with Longhorn’s Tate Jackson sitting 0.19 seconds behind Conger.

Men’s 200 free

Haas is once again seeded at number one along with the top four all under the 1:50 mark. Longhorn’s Austin Katz is seeded fifth with a 1:50.11, roughly five seconds behind Haas. However, Katz is number one in the 200 back.

Women’s 100 back

Aggie’s Cook is once again seeded in a tight race for first as only 0.43 seconds separates her from number one seed unattached Maxine Wolters.

Men’s 50 free

While seeded first, Longhorn’s Jackson is only 0.55 seconds ahead of number two seed Austin Swim Club’s Matthew Willenbring. Both are the only swimmers under the 23 mark.

Other notable races include a potential dual for first between Peyton Quattlebaum and Olivia Johnson in the women’s 800 free with only 0.40 seconds separating the pair.

In the women’s 50 free, 16-year-old Emma Wheal of Western Hills Athletic Club is seeded first with a time of 25.48. Seeded second is Longhorn Anelise Diener. Both Wheal and Diener are the only two swimmers seeded under the 26-second mark.

Morning prelims will begin at 9:00 am CST, evening finals will begin at 5:30 pm CST.
