East Carolina Downs Davidson, 148-83 Women/133-109 Men

GREENVILLE, North Carolina, October 14. THE East Carolina men and women's swimming and diving teams each opened the 2006-07 dual meet season with a win over Davidson at Minges Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Lady Pirates posted a 148-83 win over the Wildcats, while their male counterparts recorded a 133-109 win.

"We're very pleased to have swam so well today," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "We had over a dozen Nike Cup qualifiers this afternoon, so we're very happy to have such an outstanding early season performance."

Juniors Rebbeca Perry and Megan Pulaski, both Greenville natives, recorded a pair of first place finishes to pace the Lady Pirates. Perry touched first in the 50-yard (23.50) and 100-yard (51.48) freestyle, while Pulaski claimed first place in the 500-yard (5:06.09) and 1,000-yard (10:16.58) freestyle.

A trio of freshmen won their first collegiate races for the Lady Pirates. Rachel Blue won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.85, Jackie Jones won the 200 IM with a mark of 2:08.02 and Dana Gimbor posted the top score in the one-meter dive with score of 238.05 as ECU won 10 of 13 events.

Junior Ryan Hunt paced the men to their opening season victory. Hunt recorded the highest score in both the one-meter (256.95) and three-meter (245.40) dives.

Freshman Kristian Ramkvist was one of four Pirates to win an individual event. Ramkvist won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.41. Junior Geoff Hansfield helped ECU complete a sweep of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.33. Senior Matt Donohue did the same in the 100-yard butterfly with mark of 51.58.

Freshman Jason Guzewich earned his first collegiate victory by winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.01.
