Duquesne Sweeps St. Bonaventure, 115-90 Women/105-100 Men

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, October 20. The Duquesne University men's swimming team won its 2006-07 opener in dramatic fashion by defeating the 2006 reigning Atlantic 10 champions St. Bonaventure, 105-100 Friday evening at Towers Pool. It is the first win over the Bonnies since Duquesne has been keeping swimming records. Meanwhile, the women's swimming team made school history by defeating St. Bonaventure, 115-90. The win marks the first time in Duquesne's recorded history that the Dukes beat the Bonnies in women's swimming.

For the men, five different Dukes won individual events while Duquesne won both relays. Senior Scott Darwin captured gold in the 200 back while also helping on both relays. Junior Ian Walsh took first in the 100 free and also helped in the 400 medley relay.

On the women's side, Duquesne won seven of the 11 races, led by senior transfer Melissa Johnson, who captured individual golds in the 200 free and 100 free as well as a team first place in the 400 free relay.

Sophomore Katrina Streiner also had a hand in three wins as she captured first in the 50 free while helping on the first place 400 free and 400 medley relays.
