Duquesne, Rhode Island Vs. Fordham

BRONX, New York, November 17. THE Fordham swimming and diving team hosted their annual dual meet with Duquesne and Rhode Island, with Fordham coming away with victories in all four match-ups. The Fordham women defeated Duquesne, 143-79, and Rhode Island, 146-89, while the Fordham men topped Rhode Island, 150-92, and Duquesne, 151-85. In the Duquesne-Rhode Island meet, Duquesne won both by scores of 117-116 (men) and 138-98 (women).

The highlights of the meet came from Fordham, as the women's 400 medley relay team, comprised of Christina Cosentino, Nicole Marshall, Caitlin Napoli, and Amanda Ciccone, won the event in a schoool record time of 3:54.12. They broke the 2003 mark of 3:55.83, set by Erika Newell, Renee Thomas, Karina Burgess, and Michelle Maguire.

In addition to the relay, Marshall was one of three Rams to post two event wins on the day. She took first in the 200 individual medley (2:08.44) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.40). Ryan Coombs followed suit with wins in the 200 freestyle (1:42.41) and 500 freestyle (4:40.59), while Donato Callara won both diving events with scores of 311.85 (3M) and 286.50 (1M).

The Rams won a total of 14 events on the afternoon. For the women, Ciccone won the 50 free (24.62), Napoli won the 200 butterfly (2:05.39), and Cosentino won the 200 backstroke (2:07.31). In addition, the 400 freestyle relay won their event in 3:38.57. For the men, Justin Coombs won the 100 freestyle (48.04) and Sean Terry took the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.71, while the men's 400 freestyle relay won their race in 3:13.52.

The Fordham swimming and diving teams will next be in action on Monday, November 19th, as they will host Columbia University, starting at 6:00 PM.
