Duke Coach Dan Colella Speaks After Back-to-Back Meets

DURHAM, North Carolina, October 9. THE Duke Swim team faced William and Mary on Saturday in their home opener at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion. A day after the teams faced both NC State and Miami (women only) in Raleigh — the Wolfpack swept the Blue Devils, but the Duke women took down the Hurricanes — both the teams each came out with victories. Although the final scores look blowout in nature in both cases, both meets featured exciting races throughout, with many races, including the relays, coming down to a few tenths of a second.

After the meet, Duke head coach Dan Colella sat down in his office with Swimming World correspondent David Rieder to discuss his team’s previous 24 hours. He spoke of his team’s strong racing in the pair of meets as well as their ability to take what they learned from their swims one afternoon and apply those lessons the next morning. Colella also discussed the accomplishments of Lauren Weaver, who achieved an NCAA “B” cut in the 50 free on Friday, along with breaststroker Hunter Knight, who fell just short of that standard in the men’s 100 breast on Saturday.
