Caeleb Dressel won his first event at the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines tonight, getting to the wall just ahead of Marius Kusch. Dressel’s time of 51.51 was just a touch behind Kusch’s prelims time of 51.35, which currently stands as the #1 time in the world.
Notably, it was Dressel’s second half that was the real difference-maker in this race, as he was only third at the 50 and nearly seven-tenths behind Kusch at the 50. Kusch was out fast in 23.53, about two-tenths faster than he was this morning, but ultimately couldn’t hold on and finished second in 51.58, just behind Dressel.
Those two were the only two under 52 seconds in the field, with bronze going to Luis Martinez (52.17).
