Division II Meet Recap: Lindenwood Sweeps Quad Meet As Teams Regroup For Winter Invites

Both Lindenwood swimming and diving teams hosted Lindenwood-Belleville, Missouri-St. Louis, and Maryville on Saturday in a quad meet format at home. Lindenwood swept both the men’s and women’s meets, continuing a strong season for the Lions.

The Lions men and women are currently ranked seventh and tenth respectively in Division II based on their performances from last week’s Drury Invitational, and the Lions took this opportunity to mix up their line-up as they move their focus to their invitational in December. Notably, Lindenwood standout Serghei Golban, who is ranked 2nd right now nationally in the 50 free (20.63), was considerably off this weekend. His only individual event was the 50 free, where he finished sixth in 21.85. Full results from the meet can be found here, and team scores can be found here.

Overall it was a quiet week for Division II swimming and diving as many teams are shifting focus toward the winter invitational meets that will start kicking off shortly after Thanksgiving. A few highlights from the week include:

  • Florida Tech’s Victor Rocha Furtado took one individual (50 fly – 22.15) and two relay wins (100 free leadoff – 45.07, 50 fly split – 21.86) in the Panther’s rout of Keiser University. Furtado is currently the Division II leader in the 50 free (20.62) and ranked second in 100 free (44.92) and 100 butterfly (48.73).
  • Colorado Mesa’s Mary Saiz had three individual wins in her team’s wins over Colorado Mines and Northern Colorado, taking the 50 free (24.30), 100 back (57.26), and 200 back (2:04.25). Saiz also led off the winning 400 medley relay. That moves Saiz up to seventh in the 100 backstroke, and she currently sits in sixth in the 200 back (2:03.42). The senior was sixth and second in the 100 and 200 backstroke respectively at 2016 NCAA’s.
  • Fresno Pacific University’s Maksim Shcherbakov posted the top time in the country this year in the 100 breaststroke (54.44). He also holds the top time in the country in the 200 breast (2:01.28). The junior was third at 2016 NCAA’s in the 100 breast (54.44) and 200 breast (1:54.37).
