Theodore (T.C.) Smith has given the University of Louisville another verbal commitment for the class of 2021. Smith, who swims for Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team in Sarasota, Florida, is a strong distance freestyler.

Smith explained his decision to Swimming World,

“The staff at Louisville has been as helpful and supportive as I could ever ask for since the beginning of the whole recruiting process. The team has welcomed me with open arms. There is a great attitude within and surrounding the team that feels magnetic and is extremely exciting. The institution has all the academic and athletic opportunities I feel will help lead me to be the most successful I can possibly be as an overall person.”

Smith’s best times:

  • 500 Freestyle: 4:23.91
  • 1000 Freestyle: 9:11.52
  • 1650 Freestyle: 15:16.96
  • 400 IM: 4:00.26
  • 200 Backstroke: 1:51.56

At Junior Nationals this summer, he finished fourth in the 1500 freestyle and fifth in the 800. At last year’s Florida 2A High School state championship, the then junior won the 500 freestyle in 4:23.91, a new lifetime best. He was also seventh in the 100 backstroke (53.03). Smith is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Smith would have helped the runner up Cards at the 2016 ACC Championships, finishing 13th in the mile with his best time. He also could have been 13th in the 500 freestyle.

Spencer Carl also gave his verbal commitment to the Cards this week.
