Distance Freestyle Specialist Gillian Swift Lends Verbal Commitment to Toledo
NEW COMMIT: Distance ace Gillian Swift of Carlsbad, Calif. has pledged her verbal commitment to the University of Toledo and will suit up for the Rockets in the fall of 2021.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so unbelievably excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue to swim and study at the University of Toledo! I am so thankful for my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and everyone else who has helped me along the way. So blessed to be able to continue this journey at such an amazing school. Go Rockets!!”
Swift, who does her club swimming with North Coast Aquatics, placed 20th in the mile and 23rd in the 1000 free at Carlsbad Sectionals in March. She finished 11th and ninth, respectively, in those events at East LA Sectionals in December and earned bronze in both the 400m and 800m free at the San Diego Imperial LCM Junior Olympics in Summer 2019.
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:55.69
- 500 free – 5:04.29
- 1000 free – 10:25.18
- 1650 free – 17:33.11
Also competing for Carlsbad High School, Swift is a four-time CIF San Diego Sectional Championship finalist. She finished fourth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking seventh in both of those events during her freshman season.
Swift will add valuable depth when she arrives on campus as a member of the Class of 2025 as she would’ve been their second-fastest miler and third-fastest 1000 freestyler last season. She also would’ve placed in the top-15 of the mile at the 2020 MAC Championships where Toledo finished sixth overall in the team standings.
