Distance Ace Spencer Tussing Commits to Tennessee
NEW COMMIT: Distance swimmer Spencer Tussing of Grove City, Ohio has committed to Tennessee and will arrive in Knoxville as a member of the class of 2023.
Tussing swims year-round with the Ohio State Swim Club under head coach Kyle Goodrich and owns four Winter Junior standards. He most recently competed at Juniors East earlier this month where he placed 18th in the 500 free in a new lifetime best. He posted five top-12 finishes at Spire Speedo Sectionals this past summer after taking eighth in the mile at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Columbus. He took third in the 1000 free at ISCA Junior Nationals in March and represented Grove City High School at the Ohio State Championships during his freshman season where he finaled in the 500 free.
He told Swimming World:

His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:40.11
- 500 free – 4:27.76
- 1000 free – 9:20.95
- 1650 free – 15:28.93
- 200 fly – 1:52.13
- 400 IM – 3:59.43
Tussing will provide valuable depth when he suits up for the Vols in the fall of 2019 and will have one year of overlap with top returning distance swimmer Taylor Abbott. Although he currently sits outside of scoring range at the SEC Championships, he has continuously made improvements each year: over the past two seasons, he has dropped four seconds from his 200 free, six from the 500 free, 36 from the 1000 free and 13 from the mile.
