Denver Secures Verbal Pledges from Minnesota’s Will Melsha, Illinois’ Frank Tirone
NEW COMMITS: Blaine, Minn. native Will Melsha and Frank Tirone of Oak Park, Ill. have both announced their verbal commitments to the University of Denver beginning in the fall of 2021.
Both talented swimmers will join Marco Nosack, Grayson Hamous and Kieran Watson as a member of the Pioneers’ Class of 2025. In 2020, Denver clinched their seventh-straight Summit League Championship title.
WILL MELSHA

Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Denver! Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for helping me along the way. I can’t wait to get to DU. Go Pios!!”
His best times include:
- 200 IM – 1:53.77
- 400 IM – 4:03.70
- 100 back – 50.77
- 200 back – 1:51.89
Melsha trains year-round with The Great Wolf Swim Team and last competed at Minnesota Seniors in February where he achieved 100% best times and grabbed bronze in the 200 IM. He finished 10th in the 200m IM and 11th in the 100m back two summers ago at Minnesota LCM Seniors before going on to compete at NCSAs.

Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Denver! I want to thank my friends, family, coaches and teammates for all of their support through this process. Go Pios!!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.89
- 100 free – 45.51
- 200 free – 1:42.68
- 100 fly – 51.57
Tirone swims for Academy Bullets Swim Club and recorded a trio of top-12 finishes at Illinois Seniors in February and placed 13th in the 100m free at Illinois LCM Seniors in Summer 2019. Also competing for Oak Park River Forest High School, Tirone sprinted to sixth in the 50 free as a junior at the Illinois State Championships.
