Denny Ryther Appointed As Chairman of UANA Open Water Committee

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. January 18. DENNY Ryther was appointed as chairman of the Unión Americana de Natación (UANA or the Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas) Technical Open Water Swimming Committee. His tenure will be from November 2012 to October 2015.

Ryther, a long-time USA Swimming national open water swim team manager and administrator, will head an esteemed group of experienced open water swimming coaches and administrators from the Americas over the next quadrennial. His UANA colleagues include Jose Ismael Gonzales, Executive Committee Liaison from Guatemala, Jorge Delgado, Secretary from Ecuador, Chantal Van Keekin Frederik from Suriname, Tomas Haces from Cuba, Gladys Mejia Garcia from El Salvador, Rick Walker from the USA, Pierre Lafontaine from Canada and Ron Jacks from Canada.

The committee is responsible for the preparation and execution of international open water swimming competitions for the national teams of South America, Central America, the Caribbean region and North America. The group also addresses the needs of the open water swimming community in the Americas regarding the development of coaches, officials and athletes.
