Denmark Long Course National Championships: Fifth Night Features More Records

ESBJERG, Denmark, April 11. THE fifth night of action at the Denmark Long Course National Championships featured even more records being added to the books.

Jeanette Ottesen opened the evening with a sterling time of 25.06 in the women's 50 free. Her effort just missed her national record of 24.83 set at the Beijing Olympics.

The Netherlands' Robin van Aggele followed in the men's 50 breast with a winning time of 28.50, while Jacob Carstensen came up just short of the national record of 29.08 set by Michael Schultz Andersen last July when Carstensen took second in 29.13.

Pernille Larsen walked away with the national title in the women's 50 back with a winning time of 29.20, while Jakob Andkjaer broke the national record in the men's 50 free semifinal heats with a second-seeded 22.36. The time beat his standard of 22.47 set in 2007. Switzerland's Flori Lang qualified first in the sprint with a 22.32.

Julie Hjorth-Hansen lowered her national record in the women's 200 IM with a triumphant readout of 2:11.29. The clocking cleared her previous record of 2:11.99 set at the Beijing Olympics.

Anders Jensen then claimed the men's 100 back crown with a time of 56.85, off the national record of 55.87 set by Mathias Gydesen in July. Next, Lia Dekker cruised to the women's 100 breast title in 1:07.67.

Andkjaer continued his standout meet with a victorious time of 52.83 in the men's 100 fly. Not too far off his prime time of 52.24 that went into the books as the national record at the Beijing Olympics.

The Sigma Nordsjaelland contingent of Josephine Emilie-Thomsen, Hjorth-Hansen, Louise Jansen and Lotte Friis closed the night by crushing the national record in the women's 400 free relay. The foursome clocked a 3:45.16, while Elitesvom Esbjerg's team posted a 3:47.73 – both under the previous national record of 3:48.12 set by Sigma back in July 2008.
