NEW COMMIT: Denison University has scored a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Amber Croonquist of Eden Prairie, Minn.
She will join Lauren Kelly, Sophie Kannee, Maria Mrosko, Annie Pfeufer, Zoe Barclay and Maja Palmroos as a member of the Big Red’s class of 2025.
She told Swimming World:
“I am blessed to share that I will be attending Denison University to pursue my academic and athletic career! I am so thankful for everyone who encouraged and supported me throughout the years of double practices, early mornings, and hot pool decks, particularly my family, teammates, coaches and friends. I especially appreciated coaches Parini and Kellen’s assistance through this long but productive process. I look forward to being a member of this amazing Denison team and contributing to the many achievements to come! #gobigred”
A talented freestyler and butterflyer, Croonquist does her club swimming with Aquajets Swim Club and earned four best times at Minnesota Seniors in March where her highest finish was a seventh-place showing in the 100 fly. In Summer 2019, she finished 11th in the 100m fly and 12th in the 200m fly at Minnesota LCM Seniors.
Her best times include:
- 50 freestyle – 24.05
- 100 freestyle – 52.96
- 100 butterfly – 56.21
- 200 butterfly – 2:10.07
Also competing for Osseo High School, Croonquist placed eighth in the 100 fly and 13th in the 50 free as a junior while taking 13th in the 100 fly during her sophomore season at the Minnesota AA State Championships.
She is also an eight-time 5AA Sectional Championship finalist, swimming to gold in both the 50 free and 100 fly as a senior. For her performances two weeks ago, Croonquist was named the Sectional Swimmer of the Year.
Under head coach Gregg Parini, the Big Red have clinched six NCAA Division III National Championship titles and 16 national runner-up finishes.
