Delaware vs. Penn State-Behrend

LARGO, Florida, January 2. THE University of Delaware men's and women's swimming teams swept all 10 relay events against Penn State – Behrend during their New Year's Day Meet in an outdoor long-course competition on a rainy Friday afternoon.

The Blue Hens captured the top two spots in every event during the unscored relay meet. Zach Schiavo and Ryan Roberts both helped lead three victorious relay teams on the men's side, while Courtney Raw won three events for the women.

Schiavo and Roberts teamed with Robert MacLeish and Craig Young to take the 200-backstroke relay in 2:04.64 before joining with MacLeish and Grady Carter to win the 200-freestyle event in 1:45.96. Roberts also opened the meet alongside Dominic Pavlik, Michael Moore, and Matt Wehrman to capture the 200-medley relay in 2:02.56, while Schiavo served with Moore, Michael Wodoslawsky, and Andrew Speese on the 200-butterfly squad that won the event with a time of 1:54.48.

Pavlik also led the victorious 200-breaststroke grouping that touched the wall in 2:20.91. He was joined in the event by three freshmen as Michael Marando, Zach Wheatley, and Tyler Szarko rounded out the stellar squad.

On the women's side, Raw served as the anchor on the top freestyle relay squad and swam the lead leg on the medley and backstroke teams. In the medley, she guided the foursome of Hannah Facchine, Megan Huber, and MaryKathryn Harris to a time of 2:12.03 before teaming with Kristen McBrien, Jena Marrinucci, and Alexandra Brown to take the backstroke in 2:22.22.

Later, Raw capped the meet by joining with Harris, Lesley Payonk, and Erinne Butler to take the top spot in the 200-freestyle with a 1:59.97 clocking.

Kiley Friedrich and Sarah Vandoren also performed well during the meet as the two standouts teamed up to capture a couple of titles. The pair joined with Elise Kanegawa and Emily Morse to win the butterfly relay with a time of 2:09.85 before teaming with Marianne Flynn and Donna Healy to take the 200-breaststroke after touching the wall in 2:39.43.

The Blue Hens will return to the pool on January 9 when Delaware hosts Towson during a Colonial Athletic Association meet at the Rawstrom Natatorium.
