Delaware, Rider vs. La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, November 17. THE University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up victories over host La Salle and Rider Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hen men's team, which improved to 5-1 on the season, snapped an
11-meet losing streak to La Salle while defeating the Explorers for the
first time since the 1953-54 season. UD had also dropped five straight
meets to Rider since a win over the Broncs in 1998-99. The Delaware
women's team improved to 7-1 on the year and defeated Rider for the
fifth straight meeting.

Grady Carter led the UD men's team by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.26
and finishing third in the 100 freestyle in 48.28. Matt Wehrman captured
the 500 freestyle in 4:48.57, while the UD 400 medley relay team won its
race in 3:32.06 and the 200 freestyle relay team captured its event in
1:25.81.

Dominic Pavlik finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.57 for the
Blue Hens, while John Ohlhaver was second in the 200 backstroke in
1:56.99. Matt Abbruzzese finished second in the 1-meter diving with a
249.70 score and third in the 3-meter diving with a 236.20 score, while
Thomas Gallagher placed second in the 3-meter diving in 241.75.

Andrew Zinn came in third in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.83, while Craig
Young was third in the 200 backstroke in 1:58.19.

Cortney Barry led the UD women by winning the 1000 freestyle in 10:22.91
and the 500 freestyle in 5:07.50, while Maryann Walker took the 200
freestyle in 1:55.30 and Emily Smathers won the 200 backstroke in
2:08.97. The Blue Hen 200 freestyle relay also won its event with a time
of 1:39.43.

Rachel Greene finished second in the 50 freestyle for the Blue Hens,
while Kailey Pelton was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.13. Walker
placed second in the 100 freestyle in 54.53, while Meghan Barber came in
second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.74.

Lauren Guntner finished third in the 1000 freestyle in 10:51.21 and
third in the 500 freestyle in 5:17.58 for Delaware, while Sarah Begley
was third in the 50 freestyle in 25.22. Catherine Gallagher placed third
in the 200 individual medley in 2:15.43, while Stephanie House was third
in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.01. Emily Watts finished third in the 200
backstroke in 2:11.22, while Donna Healy was third in the 200
breaststroke in 2:32.01. The UD 400 medley relay team also was third in
its race in 4:02.60.

Both Blue Hens teams return to action on November 30 when they compete
in the Loyola Invitational.
