Daniela Samulski Retires from Swimming

BERLIN, Germany, January 14. GERMAN Olympian Daniela Samulski has retired from swimming to concentrate on her studies, according to a report from the German swimming federation.

Samulski, 26, had planned to return to the pool next month after spending the past five months dedicated to school, but her longtime coach, Henning Lambertz, decided that Samulski needed to be in training earlier for a chance to return to the Olympic Games.

Samulski won three medals at the 2009 world championships (silver in 50 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay and bronze in the 400 medley relay) and three in last summer's European championships (including one gold in the 400 freestyle relay). She was also an Olympian in 2000 and 2008.
