Daniel Diehl Breaks Another 13-14 National Age Group Record, This Time in 100 Backstroke

Daniel Diehl, 14, from the Cumberland YMCA in Maryland broke another National Age Group Record this weekend at the KA CLosed invite.

After smashing the 200 free mark, Diehl broke Michael Andrew‘s 13-14 boys record in the 100-yard backstroke, finshing in 47.44. Andrew had the record at 47.83, which he set in 2014.

Diehl went out extremely fast in the event and was able to hang on for the record.

Diehl also swam the 50-yard free and finished in 20.38, fifth all-time in the 13-14 age group. Andrew leads that record field with a 19.76.

Earlier in the weekend, Diehl broke the 200 freestyle national age group record in short course yards with a 1:36.75. The swim passed Destin Lasco on the all-time list, who held the former NAG record at 1:38.24. Diehl’s best time was a 1:40.01 that he swam earlier this year in March as he sat 25th all-time in the 13-14 age group.

In the process, he passed some pretty big names including three-time Olympian Ian Crocker and US national champ Maxime Rooney, as well as Lasco, who is currently a freshman at Cal.
