Croatia Qualifies for FINA Men’s Water Polo World League 2011

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 23. CROATIA confirmed its qualification for the Super Final of the FINA Men's Water Polo World League 2011, by winning its fourth match at the European preliminary round, played on February 22. Croatia tops Group C with four wins in four matches (12 points), having beaten in Dordrecht (NED) the local team by 9-6. As organiser of the Super Final, in Florence, from June 21-26, Italy is automatically qualified, but also won its latest match against Greece in Athens (7-4). Italy is now second of the group with nine points, with Greece and the Netherlands out of contention for the Super Final qualification.

In Group A, Serbia (the 2010 champion) also got its fourth consecutive victory, this time in Skopje against FYR Macedonia, triumphing by an expressive 12-4. If Serbia wins the next game (on March 22), counting for the fifth round (out of six), against Germany, it also gets its "ticket" to the Super Final. In theory, its main opponent in the Group (only the winner qualifies) is Spain, who narrowly beat Germany in Berlin, by 9-8. The Iberians have now seven points against Serbia's 12.

In Group B, things are more balanced, with Montenegro (12 points) also accumulating its fourth win – this time, a comfortable victory by 9-2 against Turkey in Istanbul -, but being closely followed by Romania (nine points). In Oradea, the locals defeated Russia by 11-8 and maintain real chances of qualifying for the Super Final.
