Croatia Long Course Championships: Eight Different Swimmers Earn Wins on Night Three

RIJEKA, Croatia, July 14. ANOTHER night of finals is in the books at the Croatia Long Course Championships, as eight different swimmers recorded victories this evening.

The third night of finals in Croatia began with a victory by Sanja Jovanovic in the women's 50m back. Jovanovic touched in 29.07, well ahead of Monika Babok's 30.11 and Ana Grgic's 30.14. Roko Simunic won the men's race in 26.38 in a close finish over Sasa Gerbec (26.43). Teo Kolonic swam a 26.64 for third.

Dominika Bilac cruised her way to a dominating win in the women's 200m fly, as she won by more than 10 seconds in 2:21.08. Helena Ivanisevic emerged to take second in 2:31.97, followed by Laura Herek in 2:32.12. On the men's side, Niksa Roki got to the wall first in 2:02.55, three seconds off his own national record. Sasa Kuznar turned in a time of 2:04.18 to take silver, with Petar Mrcela taking home the bronze in 2:04.56.

In the women's 100m breast, another exciting finish ensued with Smiljana Marinovic and Gabrijela Korac fighting it out to the last stroke. Marinovic got the better of Korac at the finish, 1:11.87 to 1:11.92. Lana Dragojevic snuck in for third with a 1:12.43. Ante Krizan recorded the only sub-1:03 performance to earn victory in the men's race with a 1:02.99. Ivan Duran turned in a 1:03.81 for silver, while Sasa Gerbec placed third in 1:04.04.

Two distance freestyle events closed out the night. Ana Matkovic dominated the women's 1500m free, winning in 18:13.86 over Ana Radic (18:21.57) and Ivana Aljinovic (18:21.81). Meanwhile, Sven Arnar Saemundsson captured the men's 800m free in 8:34.51 over Luka Vulic (8:40.10) and Bruno Korbar (8:40.37).

In relay action, Zeljana Knezevic, Smiljana Marinovic, Ana Matkovic and Sanja Jovanovic posted the quickest time in the women's 4x100m free relay at 3:54.17. Ivan Levaj, Hrvoje Capan, Mateo Muzek and Lovre Soric won the men's event in 3:23.35.
