COVID Protocols Cancel College Meets, Including NC State-North Carolina

The NC State swimming and diving program will no longer make the trip to rival North Carolina on Friday, Jan. 14 for its originally-scheduled dual meet against the Tar Heels. The decision comes due to COVID-related protocols within the UNC swimming and diving program.

The Wolfpack’s home dual against Duke remains on schedule for Saturday, Jan. 15. Diving against the Blue Devils will begin at 10 a.m. that morning, with swimming slated for an 11 a.m. start from the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center on the campus of NC State. Masks are required and enforced in all indoor spaces on campus, regardless of vaccination status.

LSU vs. FSU Meet Officially Canceled Due to COVID Protocols

Due to COVID-19 concerns within the Florida State program, the meet scheduled for Jan. 15 between LSU and FSU has been canceled, the program announced Tuesday.

“We are disappointed that Florida State will be unable to make the trip to Baton Rouge,” head swimming coach Rick Bishop said. “They are great competitors, and we always look forward to competing against them. We wish them the best and hope their athletes get healthy soon. The COVID virus is so contagious, and it has created a very difficult time for all student-athletes as they try to be vigilant, train hard and stay healthy to compete and go through college life.”

In lieu of competition against a different opponent, the LSU swimming and diving team will hold an exhibition meet Saturday at the previously scheduled time, 10 a.m. CT. Due to COVID protocols, only family members of athletes are permitted to attend Saturday’s time trial intrasquad meet. Out of an abundance of caution, masks will be required to enter the LSU Natatorium.

LSU will use Saturday’s exhibition meet as another opportunity to get better in preparation for its final regular-season meet against Texas A&M.

Notre Dame Tri-Meet with Princeton, Navy Cancelled

Notre Dame on Wednesday announced that its tri-meet with Princeton and Navy would be cancelled. Notre Dame will not not rescheduled.

Notre Dame said it would not travel to the meet, scheduled to be hosted by Princeton, “due to COVID-19 protocols and out of an abundance of caution.” It was a nonleague meet for all teams involved.

Princeton and Navy, however, have agreed to swim next week, on Jan. 21. Princeton will essentially have a doubleheader, swimming Columbia at 11 a.m. and Navy at 5 p.m.
