“Unfortunately I got COVID so I can’t compete this weekend in Eindhoven, and for a while I won’t,” Hosszu wrote. “… take care of yourselves and each other very much, this is the most important thing now!”

Hosszu had not swum yet this year for Iron, the team for which she has been a colossal figure in the first two years of the International Swimming League. She had planned to rejoined the team for the playoffs in Eindhoven, but those plans are on hold and looking increasingly unlikely for this season.

Iron finished third in the first ISL Playoff Match. It will take on Cali, London and LA Current in Playoff Match 4 Saturday and Sunday, a match in which it will need something very special to avoid finishing fourth. Iron’s last playoff match is Nov 27-28. Having navigated the Match 11 last chance to get to the playoffs, Iron is a longshot to reach the Grand Final.

Despite not taking part in ISL Season 3, Hosszu has been competing at meets within Hungary as the rallies back into form aft the Tokyo Olympics. The 32-year-old did medal in Tokyo after three golds and a silver in Rio. Her best finish was fifth in the 400 individual medley and seventh in the 200 IM.
