Corinne Showalter At It Again at the YMCA National Championships

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 3. IN the second night of competition, Sarasota's Corinne Showalter shot down her second YMCA record en route to her third event title at the YMCA National Championships.

Showalter opened the night with a record-time of 9:39.09 in the 1000 freestyle that erased the previous standard of 9:46.13 set by Katie Nelson on April 15, 2003. Showalter later doubled up with a time of 1:49.83 in the 200 free.

Other women's winners included Minot's Dagny Knutson who added to her 200 IM title with a win in the 100 fly in 54.47. Meanwhile, Elgin's Keri Sink grabbed the 200 breast title in 2:17.78.

For the men, Sarasota's Austin Detra touched in 9:09.91 in the 1000 freestyle to join his 500 freestyle win. Triangle Area's Matt Donch won the 100 fly in 48.81, while New Canaan's MacGregor Leo picked up the 200 breast title in 2:03.14. Birmingham's Morgan Priestley won the 200 free in 1:38.18.

In relay action, Triangle Area's foursome of Teresa Long, Steffi Drechsel, Candace Cooper and Mandy Myers won the women's 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.63. The Schroeder quartet of Kevin Baseheart, Greg Zupek, Steve Cebertowicz and Zach Koehn touched first in 3:04.76 in the men's 400 freestyle relay.
