Connecticut Girls High School State Championships

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, November 25. AT the Connecticut Girls High School State Championships, Greenwich tallied 624 points for first followed by Darien (469) and New Canaan (411).
Greenwich won all three relays. Brooke Lorenz, Emily Weir, Morgan Karetnick, and Shannon Jones won the 200 medley relay (1:47.45). Weir also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.62.
St. Paul’s Faith Martin had individual wins in the 200 (1:50.22) and 100 freestyles. She set a meet record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.85. The previous record (50.95) was set in 2006 by Amity’s Margaux Farrell.
Kara Capossela (Greenwich) won the diving competition (459.65). Katie Warburg of Wilton and Alex Leinroth of Darien followed with scores of 442.10 and 429.90 respectively.
Weir, Jones, Erin Calderoni, and Jesse Evans combined for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.62).
Other first-place finishers include Kimberly Jerome (Chesire) in the 200 IM (2:06.64), Michaela Kearney (Mercy) in the 50 freestyle (23.74), Dana Grindall (Amity) in the 100 butterfly (56.30), Alicia Mathieu (Rham) in the 500 freestyle (4:52.50), and Lauren Solernou (Sacred Heart) in the 100 backstroke (55.44).
Karetnick, Calderoni, Julie Case, and Evans closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.03).
