Mallory Comerford, Trevor Carroll Lead Louisville Past Florida State

Louisville and Florida State met for a two-day meet in Tallahassee. Whereas FSU competed against Florida last weekend, this was Louisville’s first meet in the new year. On the men’s side, the Cards defeated the Seminoles 203-150. The Louisville women won with 238 points to Florida State’s 115.

The first day of competition at the Bobby E. Leach Center began with with the 200 free relay. On the women’s side, Louisville’s team of Andrea Kneppers, Kelsi Worrell, Mallory Comerford, and Andrea Cottrell won in 1:32.29. Florida State’s team of Jason McCormick, Kanoa Kaleoaloha, Chad Mylin, and Ian Apple won the men’s event in 1:20.59.

Louisville went 1-2-3 in the women’s 200 IM, with freshman Rachael Bradford-Feldman winning in 2:02.56. The Cards also grabbed the top three spots in the men’s 200 IM, led by Nolan Tesone in 1:47.46.

Louisville swept the top three again in both the men’s and women’s 500 freestyle. Comerford won in 4:51.44 for the women, and Trevor Carroll won in 4:34.53 for the men.

Cottrell won the women’s 100 breast in 1:02.76. for the Cards. Jason Coombs won FSU’s first individual event of the meet in the 100 breast with a time of 55.13.

Louisville’s Ashely LeClair was the only female under 2:00 in the 200 back, winning in a time of 1:59.57. Grigory Tarasevich touched the wall first for the Cards in the men’s 200 back in 1:45.01.

The Cards took first in both the men’s and women’s 100 free. Worrell won in 49.52, and Carroll won in 45.05.

Abbie Houck of Louisville took the women’s 200 fly in 2:00.5. Cole Hensley won the men’s event in 1:47.42 for the Seminoles.

Florida State took first in both of day one’s diving events. Cassidy Gebhart won the women’s 3m with a score of 310.65, and Tyler Roberge dove to first place in the men’s 1m with a 330.82.

Day one concluded with a very exciting 400 medley relay. The Louisville women’s team of Alina Kendzior, Cottrell, Worrell, and Comerford won in 3:41.04, about four seconds ahead of FSU. On the men’s side, Florida State’s team of Noah Henley, Coombs, Hensley, and McCormick won in 3:14.79, defeating Louisville’s 3:14.96. McCormick anchored in 43.55, which would have won the men’s 100 free by 1.5 seconds.

Day two started with the Cards winning both the men’s and women’s 200 medley relay. The women’s team of Kendzior, Cottrell, Worrell, and Kneppers won in 1:41.30. The men’s team of Tarasevich, Carlos Claverie, Josh Quallen, and David Boland won in 1:27.99.

Florida State’s Summer Finke won the women’s 1000 free in 10:02.06. Louisville’s Zach Harting took the men’s race in 9:32.08.

Comerford took the women’s 50 free in 23.54, and Carroll won his third individual event by winning the men’s 50 free in 20.38.

Kendzior won the women’s 100 back in 55.5, and Tarasevich won the men’s race in 48.02.

Louisville again won both the women’s and men’s 200 breast. Manuela Sampaio touched the wall in 2:21.27 for the women, and Claverie won in 1:58.86 for the men.

100 fly National champion Worrell easily won the women’s 100 fly in 53.46. FSU’s Hensley won the men’s 100 fly in 48.78.

Comerford won her third individual event of the meet by winning the women’s 200 free in 1:49.03. Matthias Lindenbauer won the men’s 200 free for the Cards in 1:38.37.

Bradford-Feldman won the women’s 400 IM in 4:16.39, seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Tesone won for the men in 3:51.74.

Andrea Acquista won the women’s 1m diving event for the Cards with a 282.00. Dylan Grisell won the men’s 3m for the Seminoles with a 376.65.

Louisville took the top spots in the 400 free relay. The women won in 3:22.41, and the men won in 2:58.50.

“I thought we took another step in the right direction,” FSU Head Coach Frank Bradley said in a Florida State press release. “We started off flat and couldn’t shift gears, but we had a great week of training and Louisville has some great swimmers.”

Louisville returns to action January 23 as they take on Kentucky. Florida State dives back in on January 29 as they race Auburn and Wisconsin.
