Colorado School of Mines Collects Pair of Verbal Commitments from Ronan Lauinger, Jarod Schahrer

NEW COMMIT: The Colorado School of Mines has received a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Alexandria, Va. native Ronan Lauinger and Jarod Schahrer of Bellevue, Wash.

He told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to further my athletic and academic career at Colorado School of Mines! A huge thank you to all my teammates, coaches, and parents for helping me get to this point. Go Orediggers!!”

Lauinger trains year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and most recently placed 11th in the 400 IM at Potomac Valley Seniors in March after placing seventh in the 1000 free at the NCAP Invitational in December. In summer 2019, he won the 200m fly and was the runner-up in the 200m free at the Potomac Valley LCM 13&O Championships.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:45.24
  • 500 free – 4:40.79
  • 1000 free – 9:36.35
  • 200 IM – 1:56.91
  • 400 IM – 4:08.14

Also competing for TC Williams High School, Lauinger finished 11th in the 500 free during his sophomore season at the Virginia 6A State Championships.

JAROD SCHAHRER

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my swimming and academics at the Colorado School of Mines! I would like to thank my family, friends, and my coach Tommy Cunningham for supporting me daily. I would also like to thank Coach Claire McDaniel for giving me this opportunity. Let’s go Orediggers!!”

Schahrer does his club swimming with Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club and earned two best times at the Washington Open in January after finaling in a pair of events at December’s Husky Invitational. He also had a strong showing at Federal Way Sectionals in 2019, finishing 22nd overall in the 200 back.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 24.18
  • 100 back – 51.35
  • 200 back – 1:52.05
  • 200 IM – 1:53.76
  • 400 IM – 4:07.16

A senior at Sammamish High School, Schahrer is a three-time Washington 2A State Championship finalist. He won both the 100 back and 200 IM as a junior while taking fourth in the former event during his sophomore season.
