College Swim Coaches Release Dual Meet Ranking Update

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 7. ACCORDING to a release by the College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA), the pollsters apparently feel that their first set of rankings of the 2007-08 season were pretty accurate as of the November 1 vote, just sent out to the media.

While the Tigers of Auburn and Longhorns of Texas stayed atop the women's and men's polls, respectively, the majority of schools maintained the same position as in this year's inaugural rankings. Auburn was a unanimous selection for the second straight time on the women's side and the Texas men gained five first place votes for a total of nine. Additionally, the women's poll kept 15 teams, including the top 12, in the exact same place while the men's poll has 17 similar, including the top 11.

The largest jump forward in the women's ranking is that of the Virginia Cavaliers. The women from Charlottesville, Va., moved from 19 to 13. On the men's side of things, the biggest movement came from Columbia, Mo. The Missouri Tigers men's team came from the depths of the "Others Receiving Votes" to establish themselves as the 23rd ranked squad.

However, look for some major changes by the Nov. 13th vote, as top-ranked Auburn lost on the men's side, and the Texas women took a loss against Michigan on the women's side.

This year's poll will be published eight times and the champions will be crowned on Feb. 27, 2008. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation bi-weekly throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men's and women's rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving championships that will take place in March.
