Where and when did you start swimming?
I started swimming in a recreational summer league when I was 4 years old. I continued to swim rec league and still participate in other sports until the summer I turned 10 when I won the Summer League Swim Championships for the Greater Phoenix area. That fall, I decided to sign up for a year-round competitive swim program. I've been swimming at Brophy East Swim Team ever since and have dropped out of other sports except for golf which I like to do on Sundays when I can with my Dad.

Who would you name as the most influential person and coach in your swimming career?
Although I have had 5 coaches since I started swimming and each one has had an influence on me, the two coaches that have had the most impact on me are Michael Brooks (who is now head coach at York YMCA) and my current coach, Dave Gibson. I still talk with Michael on a regular basis, see him at all the big meets and he just has a way of getting into my head in a motivational way. This is the third year I have had Dave Gibson as my coach, and he is a great training coach. He has taken me to the next level with my swimming, and makes the training interesting and diverse. The top swimmers from all over Greater Phoenix come now to BEST to swim for Dave because he has created a special camaraderie with the team.

What, to this point, is your best moment in the sport and why?
It has to be when I made my first Olympic Trial qualifying time in the 200 back at Western Sectionals last Spring in Federal Way. I had just missed the cut both in that event as well as the 400 IM at Junior Nationals in Indy in the summer 2007, and so I was really focused on getting at least one OT cut. It was a breakthrough for me to get the cut in prelims, and then swim even faster in finals that night. I knew it meant that I was going to get to go to Omaha to the biggest stage of swimming that I'd ever been to. I swam the 400 IM there in a time trial and also got a cut.

What is your favorite set?
30 x 100 free on 1:30 best average.

It's extremely hard to keep a good pace going but once it's over, I really feel good about what I've done. I usually hold around 54's & 53's.

What is your least favorite set?
Dive 6 x 100 on 8:00.

This set is extremely hard for me since I'm not a sprinter but more a middle and distance swimmer.

What are your short-term goals?
To set Arizona High School records in the 200 IM and the 500 free at State Championships coming up Nov. 7–8. And, to make a decision on where I'm going to go to college.

What are your long-term goals?
To final at World Championships next summer and to make the 2012 Olympics team.

What colleges are you interested in so far?
I have taken visits to Arizona, Southern Cal, Stanford and Texas.

How is the recruiting process going?
With Arizona having their high school season in the fall, it's stressful to balance the trips and the training/invitational meets and now regionals and state coming up these next 2 weeks. It's been amazing to visit these 4 schools, and get to know the team and coaches and gain insights into their programs. Each school has unique qualities and opportunities. I'm interested in academics as well as swimming.

Is there anything else that you'd like our readers to know about you?
I have played the cello since I was 10 years old and am still in the Brophy Orchestra.
