Colgate Gets Verbal Commitment From Minnesota’s Kate Van Meter

NEW COMMIT: Mendota Heights, Minnesota’s Kate Van Meter has given her verbal commitment to swim at Colgate University. The Cretin Derham Hall High School senior is captain of her school team. She also swims for Star Swim Team.

Van Meter told Swimming World,

“I knew Colgate was the place for me when I took my first tour a year ago. Since then, I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and support of the amazing coaching staff and current swimmers on the team. I can’t wait to continue my education at a top tier university while swimming at an elite level with a program on the rise! Go ‘gate!!”

Her top times include:

  • 500 Free 4:59.69
  • 1000 Free 10:16.90
  • 1650 Free 17:08.12
  • 400 IM 4:26.34

This summer Van Meter was the overall high point winner at Minnesota Long Course State Championships. In the high school season Van Meter has stuck with the 500 free and 200 IM. As a junior she earned her highest finish thus far, third in the 500 free. She also touched 12th in the 200 IM and was named All State and All Conference. In her sophomore year Van Meter was seventh in the state in the 200 IM after finishing 16th in her freshman year. As a freshman Van Meter was also fifth in the 500 at the MSHSL AA meet.
