Coe vs. Morningside

SIOUX CITY, Iowa, November 12. MORNINGSIDE College dominated the swimming events when the Mustang men and women defeated Coe College in a swimming & diving dual on Friday in the Hindman-Hobbs Center.

The Mustang men won 10 of the 14 swimming events en route to a 150-109 triumph, while the Morningside women won nine of the 14 swimming events on the way to a 154-133 victory.

Kyle Eagen, a junior from Omaha, Neb., played a part in four of the victories for the Morningside men. Eagen doubled in the 50-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke with winning times of 29.35 seconds and 1:11.26, respectively, plus swam legs for the Mustangs' first place 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

Sean Roberts, a junior from Omaha, won the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly with times of 56.01 and 58.00, respectively, plus swam the third leg of the Mustangs' victorious 400-yard medley relay team.

Morningside had four other individual winners in the men's competition. Matt Mayfield, a junior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.04; Patrick Whitsell, a freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.43; Cameron Pederson, a freshman from Richfield, Minn., won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.77; and Andrew Burnham, a freshman from Pleasant Valley, Iowa, won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 25.65.

Pederson, Burnham, Roberts, and Eagen combined to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:56.31, while Pederson, Burnham, Eagen, and Whitsell won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:33.12.

Morningside had four individual event multiple winners in the women's competition.

Krystal Carlson, a sophomore from Richfield, Minn., won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.72 and the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:06.56.

Cora Kugler, a sophomore from Watertown, Minn., won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.47 and the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:06.88.

Megan McLaury, a sophomore from Spencer, Iowa, won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 32.68 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.51.

Cortney Walls, a freshman from Canon Falls, Minn., won the 50-yard breaststroke in 32.68 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.91.

McLaury, Kugler, Walls, and Sydney Brisco, a junior from Scottsbluff, Neb., combined to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:342.81.

Morningside will host the Mustang Invitational on Saturday at noon.
