Cleveland State Falls to Valparaiso in Season Opener, 144-52

CLEVELAND, Ohio, October 13. THE Cleveland State women's team was downed by Valparaiso at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium Saturday afternoon 144-52.

Sandra Bunker, Katie Bellew, and Erin Green led the women's team in the loss. Bunker finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (216.88), anchored the 400 yard freestyle to team a first place finish (3:47.38), and led the 400 yard medley relay team to a second place finish.

"I'm very pleased with Sandra's performance today," Morton says. "I believe Sandra is one of best contributors in a variety of events. As a result of her stamina she is able to perform in the most difficult part of the season in terms of the training."

Katie Bellew finished third in the 200 yard IM (2:22.04), and second in the 200 yard butterfly (2:19.01), while freshman Erin Green finished third in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:02.45) and second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.73).

"I'm pleased with the team's unity, enthusiasm and effort. We had a number of people give their personal bests on the women's side," Morton says.

The women travel to St. Francis for a 1:00 p.m. meet on Saturday October 20.
