NEW COMMIT: Vanderbilt University has scored a big verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from U.S. Open qualifier Clare Vetkoetter of Frisco, Texas.

She will join Huntington Beach, Calif. native Kailia Utley in Nashville as a member of the Class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Vanderbilt University! I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me along the way. I can’t wait to be a Commodore!!”

Primarily a distance freestyler, Vetkoetter does her club swimming with Texas Ford Aquatics and finished 13th in the mile and 21st in the 500 free at Juniors West in December before going on to win the 1500m free at College Station Sectionals in March. She also placed 15th in the 1500m free at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Knoxville.

In Summer 2019, she raced to sixth place in the 800m free at Austin Sectionals and earned a best time at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.72
  • 100 free – 53.30
  • 200 free – 1:51.99
  • 500 free – 4:54.39
  • 1000 free – 10:01.38
  • 1650 free – 16:45.00
  • 200 fly – 2:02.76
  • 200 IM – 2:08.25
  • 400 IM – 4:25.33

Also competing for Wakeland High School, Vetkoetter placed sixth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 IM at the Texas 5A State Championships during her freshman season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

Vetkoetter will make an immediate impact the moment she steps on campus: her best time in the 1000 free is already two seconds faster than Vanderbilt’s school record, while she’s just off the mark in the 500 free.

Save Michigan State Swim and Dive Team #battleforspartanswimanddive
Keep supporting college swimming as they are shutting down college programs. This effects age group and high school swimming.
MSU will fight for all athletes but please keep yourself involved and don’t think it won’t effect your swimmer.
