CIF Finalist Galen Penvenne Gives Verbal Commitment to Cal Golden Bears

NEW COMMIT: USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Galen Penvenne will continue his swimming career in his home state for the next four years, giving his verbal commitment to the University of California- Berkeley. From San Luis Obispo, Penvenne trains with Puma Aquatics Team. He’s a NISCA All-American and a senior at San Luis Obispo High School. At last year’s CIF Championships Penvenne finished seventh in the 50 free (20.60).

His best times are:

  • 50 Free 20.57
  • 100 Free 45.68
  • 200 Free 1:39.57
  • 200 IM 1:52.61

Ryan Hoffer is expected to be the leader of the Cal sprint group this year. Pawel Sendyk and Michael Jensen should be junior members when Penvenne moves to Berkeley.

Penvenne follows his sister Gabrielle into Division 1 swimming. She swam her freshman year at Denver, and enters her second year at UC Santa Barbara.

Reece Whitley will also dive in for the Golden Bears next fall.
