The University of Alabama has picked up a verbal commitment from Christian Strycker. The high school senior swims for Quest Swimming in Virginia. He’s also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Strycker said,

“I chose Alabama because of the world class coaching staff and facilities. The coaching staff and team made me feel immediately at home. They also have an amazing nursing program to which I plan to pursue my degree in.”

While Strycker’s 200 butterfly time earns him the most USA Swimming Power Points out of any of his events, he’s a versatile swimmer, leaving the Alabama coaches with some options when deciding where to focus his efforts. He has winter juniors cuts in the 100 and 200 butterfly, 500 free, and 200 IM.

His top times are:

  • 200 Free 1:40.77
  • 500 Free 4:29.40
  • 100 Fly 49.84
  • 200 Fly 1:48.55
  • 200 IM 1:52.05
  • 400 IM 4:06.76

The Crimson Tide placed fourth in the SEC last year. Strycker is not quite in SEC scoring range yet. Will Freeman (1:49.04) will be a senior when Strycker gets to Tuscaloosa next fall and will be an ideal training partner for the 200 butterfly.
