Chloe Sutton Tells Morning Swim Show She’s Skipping Open Water Worlds

PHOENIX, Arizona, June 8. DURING the taping of a Morning Swim Show interview, Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton explained that she would be bypassing this year's World Open Water Championships to focus on pool swimming for the Pan Pacific Championships.

"I'm not going to Roberval for the open water world championships," Sutton told show host Peter Busch. "I talked with Mark Schubert and with Coach [Bill] Rose and we decided that with the timing (of the meets) this year, it would be really hard for me to be able to make the Pan Pac team in the pool. A week before the (U.S. nationals) is the world championships, so we decided not to go to the world championships in open water and really focus on (making the pool team for) Pan Pacs."

The World Open Water Championships are scheduled for July 17-22 in Roberval, Quebec, while the U.S. National Championships are slated for Aug. 3-7 in Irvine, Calif.

"This year, we've said that we wanted her to be the best pool swimmer she can possibly be, and work in open water as she can," Rose told Busch in a separate interview. "We need very badly for her to continue her training in the pool because not only the Pan Pacs, but the world championship team is being picked this year. That will dictate a lot of what will happen next year."

Rose's interview is set to air June 9 at both SwimmingWorld.com and SwimmingWorld.TV, while Sutton's interview is scheduled for June 10 at both locations.

Eva Fabian, the third-place finisher at the U.S. Open Water Nationals is likely to slot up and join Christine Jennings in representing the U.S. at the World Open Water Championships.
