Chinese National City Games: Ye Shiwen Earns Third Gold

NANCHANG, China, October 20. YE Shiwen, the youngster who posted some stunning IM times during the course of the past year, continued her strong outing at the Chinese National City Games with her third gold medal of the meet.

Ye Shiwen claimed her third gold medal of the meet with a swift time of 2:10.01 in the women's 200 IM. She's been much faster this year with a top-ranked effort of 2:08.90 from the World Championships held in Shanghai this summer. Xue Jiao placed second in the finale with a 2:13.92, while Zhou Min earned third-place honors in 2:14.56.

Shao Yiwen chipped in with a victory in the women's 200 free after claiming the 400 free earlier in the meet. Shao clocked a 1:58.51 for the win. Liu Yiru took second in 1:59.33, while Zhou Lili wound up third overall in 2:00.33.

Zhang Qibin knocked off Wang Pudong, 1:58.90 to 1:59.44, in the men's 200 fly as the pair traded the lead throughout the race before Zhang closed out the victory in the final 50 meters. Liu Zhengzhou earned bronze with a time of 2:01.95.

Shanghai Minhang captured the men's 800 free relay title in 7:25.95, while Nanjing took second in 7:27.96. Zhengzhou rounded out the podium with a third-place 7:29.02.

Three other events witnessed semifinal action this evening. He Jianbin led qualifying with a 50.45 in the men's 100 free, while Zeng Xianliang touched second in 50.69. Zhang Yiqing qualified third in 50.93. Li Tingting topped qualifying in the women's 200 fly with a 2:11.80. Sun Lulu hit the wall second in 2:12.93, while Wang Yuge picked up third in 2:13.23. Li Xiang claimed the top seed in the men's 200 breast with a 2:17.17, while Sun Chenwei finished second in 2:17.34.
